Was I Really Published on Huffington?

You Just Never Know What You'll Find When You Google Yourself

Does this count? Drawing attention to it feels like Good Morning Vietnam: Bruno Kirby’s weasely superior boasts to Robin Williams’s Adrian Cronauser that Reader’s Digest published one of his jokes, ergo he must be funny. But Smith Mag ain’t Reader’s Digest, and my six-word memoir’s only sort-of a joke. I guess it kinda counts. Thanks, Larry Smith, editor of SmithMag and creator of the much-touted 6-word memoir project. (If Huffington Post ever publishes work I submit directly, the Inner Neurotic will be silenced.)

BACKSTORY: Over the holiday break, we were sitting around as a family, Googling images people we know. Specifically, we were looking at Google Images of the stepdaughter’s actor-boyfriend. Dan goes, “Google Beth Bates! Google Beth Bates!” I ignored him for ten minutes, then relented to stop his pestering. Imagine my surprise to find and image of my SHORT-SHORT-SHORT-form “work” on Huffington Post. Like when I made a hole-in-one my first round of golf, guess I’ve peaked early.
